Get ready, get set, get to your drawing boards! It’s official! The Brooklyn Borough President has put out the annual call for those in the Brooklyn community to design a pin that illustrates Brooklyn.

Residents of Brooklyn and non-resident students attending a K–12 school in Brooklyn are eligible to create the 2027 Brooklyn Pin. The deadline for submissions is December 6, 2026, at 11:59 PM. All ages are welcome to apply – minors need consent from a parent or guardian. Submissions must be original work. The use of artificial intelligence is not allowed. Designs should be appropriate and free of offensive language or imagery.

The pin must feature legible text naming Brooklyn. Nicknames and stylized text are acceptable. For example, Brooklyn, BK, BKLYN are permissible options. So are BROOKLYN, bk, Brooooooklyn, etc.

Artists should keep in mind that pins will be produced between .33 and .38 mm wide max (1.29 and 1.49 inches).

The official Brooklyn pin is a local tradition made famous by former Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, who handed out thousands of gold “Brooklyn” pins in the script worn by the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team. In 2025, the inaugural Brooklyn Arts Ambassador, Colm Dillane was charged with the unique honor of redesigning a limited-edition run of the official Brooklyn pin. The 2026 limited-edition pin was designed by South Brooklynite Mellina Melezhik. Inspired by the New York City subway system, Melezhik’s design paid homage to Brooklyn with the borough’s name rendered in a graffiti-inspired typeface.
