BK Story Voyager Book Picks: Dog Man “Lord of the Fleas” & The Baby-Sitters Club “Kristy’s Big Day”

Need a new book suggestion? Fear not, here are three popular graphic novels for middle readers (Grades 3-5)  that have come out in 2018:

 

Dog Man: Lord of the Fleas by Dav Pilkey  (Released August 28, 2018)DM

Dog Man fever is real for students of all ages. Dav Pilkey, who earned renown from his “Captain Underpants” series, has come out with”Lord of the Fleas”, another great installment to the Dog Man brand. Pilkey displays a sense of refinement, including clever humor to showcase the simple comic-book style drawings and text. In this fifth novel, Dog Man, Lil’ Petey, and the robot, 80-HD (aka the Supa Buddies) are called into action to save the world from the Fleas (Fuzzy Little Evil Animal Squad). The dire circumstances bring about a surprise alliance with Petey, the World’s Most Evil Cat! Can the Supa Buddies save the day? Read to find out!

 

Positively Izzy by Terri Libenson (Released May 2018)

PITerri Libenson returns with a companion novel to her “Invisible Emmie”  that captures the emo-ness of middle school. The story is told from two perspectives in two different illustration styles. Izzy, the dreamer, tells her story in a more narrative style where illustration pops amongst paragraphs of text. Brianna, the brain, tells her story in a more typical graphic novel panel style. The different approaches for these two characters allow the readers to visually know which character’s story is being told. Their stories converge unexpectedly on the day of a school talent show. The Babysitters Club #6 ( Released August 2018)

The ever popular “Baby-Sitters Club” series of novels by Ann M. Martin hooked readers BSCduring its publication run between 1986–2000. In 2017 Gale Galligan took on the role of bringing Martin’s stories and characters to life in a graphic novel format. “Kristy’s Big Day” is her second for the “The Baby-Sitters Club (BSC)” graphic novel series in its sixth installment. It’s a big day for Kristy (the president of the BSC) because her mom is getting married. It is also a big day for the BSC because this event gives them their biggest job ever: babysitting Kristy’s fourteen family members, new and old, for five straight days.Think they can do it?
