All students of PS 196 and MS 582 were treated to a full day of financial literacy thanks to a hundred volunteers from Ernst & Young through Junior Achievement.  This was the sixth year the schools participated in Financial Literacy Day. The students exercised their PS 196 Finance 001critical thinking, communication, and math skills as they worked in teams to develop business plans for ventures of their own conception.  They were guided in considering the various facets of a well run business and the financial implications of each decision. Problems were anticipated to be solved by constructing creative real-world solutions. Each team’s final business plan is then presented and celebrated.

PS 196’s partnership with Education Through Music (ETM) will provide their students with weekly, comprehensive music education from a qualified music teacher.

“The ETM program provides students a well-rounded education that will help engage and support learning in other key areas. We are excited for the students of P.S. 196K to grow not only in their music classes but their overall education,” said Katherine Damkohler, ETM Executive Director.

ETM hires, trains and mentors the music teacher, provides classroom set-up, offers a complete curriculum and ongoing support, and provides professional development throughout the school year.
